Sav-On Plumbing technicians have seen just about everything, given all their years of experience: botched home plumbing jobs, poorly maintained systems, etc. With those experiences in mind, we offer the following tips for homeowners regarding general plumbing issues and maintenance:
- Shut off your water when you’ll be away from home for more than 48 hours. (If you don’t know where your water shutoff is…find out. You don’t want to wait until an emergency to locate it.)
- Don’t put off repairing dripping faucets or running toilets. You’re sending money down the drain, and also wasting one of our precious resources…and natural gas as well if your hot water is involved.
- When’s the last time your plumbing system was looked at by a professional? If your home is more than seven years old, you should have a yearly plumbing inspection to prevent future problems; spending money on preventive maintenance sure beats repairing water damage.
- Water heaters should be flushed to maintain their efficiency and prolong their life. We suggest a schedule of three years after initial installation, and then every two years thereafter. You can do this yourself, but it’s a heavy job and it’s probably best to employ a professional to do it.
